Bangers 5K Raises $2K for CRI
The final tally is in from the Brighton Bangers 5K at the 2014 Rumble on the River: The club raised $2,000 for our friends at Community Rowing Inc., earmarked for In the Same Boat, a program at CRI for disabled and able-bodied military veterans, as well as those with less obvious disabilities, such as traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder.
The Bangers' Arra Derderian presented the check to CRI's Bruce Smith over ceremonial (and obligatory) beers.
The hugely successful debut edition of the race was supported by the Greater Boston Running Company, Wegmans, Whole Foods, Reebok, Larabar, Essentia Water, and the Oak Square Y.
In the Same Boat serves rowers referred by the VA or other veteran organizations. The program last year served more than 300 military and para-rowing participants; many veterans have called it a lifeline that provides structure, discipline, and teamwork for them as they adjust back to civilian life.
